And Then My Heart Went “Swoon!”

I LOVE the cover of the new Lonny Mag.  I audibly said “ooh!”  when I saw it….

I love that one fresh and bold colored piece can take a room that in my opinion would otherwise be dull-town, and turn it into something so beautiful and playful.

Crazy Kitchy Cool Antique Malls

Posted in Decor Files by Miss Circumstance on September 26, 2011

Today I walked through one of our local antique places hoping to find a big, round some kind of wonderful mirror for my bathroom. I didn’t find that, but I found a lot of other things. None of them came home with me, but I took some pictures of the gems that were amongst a ton of stuff.

This gives off a beautiful warm light, and with a coat of paint on the base could be awesome in a kids room, maybe used as a night-light.

This blurry picture holds a really cool desk. It looked a bit longer to me than your average desk, and I love the colors. Could be a great entryway piece too.

I am way into brass and gold right now (go figure), and loved this for its weight and non-dinky-ness. I would change the shade probably to a big drum shade in black. Tre chic.

I loved these. They were on the petite side (maybe 10 inches tall?), a pretty chartreusey-yellow, and there were two of them!

I told ya I was into brass, and lamps apparently. These would look soooo pretty with pale lavender linen drum shades with black trim on the bottom and top. Or something less specific.

Most of these were fairly reasonably priced, and what is nice about these kind of places is prices are usually negotiable. Any of these can be yours at Traders Emporium in Soquel, CA.

Orlando, the super sassy side-kick of one Miss Emily Henderson made this humungo DIY orb pendant light on the last Secrets From A Stylist

Love it. It’ll take you 10 hours, but take it as a welcome opportunity to watch you some Tim Riggins on Netflix, or dive into the waste-of-time-why-I-am-I-watching-this-but-I-can’t-help-myself-and-want-more Upper East Side Manhattan world of Gossip Girl. Or maybe Storage Wars is more your style? The fascinating yet somehow lovable jar of freak-sauce that is Jeff Lewis?

Anyways, you can find the how-to on the orb here

I picked up this jumper a while back at Urban Outfitters, on sale from $300 down to $30…That’s 90% off folks…and yes, to answer your question, I AM awesome at math.I love the black and cream graphic print, but my favorite feature is…The fun cutout back!  I love the shape of the cutout and the visual interest it adds, and I like that it’s not overly revealing.And….This is me, pretending to be a bullfighter. I think my portrayal is pretty convincing.

Well That Was Disappointing….

Who out there was up super late last night waiting for the Missoni for Target collection to launch? Then eventually went to bed, woke up this morning to Target.com being down…took a five minute break to take a shower, and then returned to their computer only to find that all the items they wanted were sold out?

This lady!

Here are some of the items I would have purchased, had I actually been able to purchase any items…

Did any of you pick up any cool things?  Anything you missed out on but wish you would have been able to get?

My Vibe My Life

Kelly Wearstler has a blog….didn’t know that. I looked all in and out of My Vibe My Life. It’s eccentric and awesome. Her stuff is beautiful, feminine, unique, and a tad ka-ray-zee. Her use of color is soooo fun and creative.

Case in point: purple and sherbet orange. Love.

And check this out-

This is a room. In a box. I find that completely fascinating. I can’t even imagine picking this stuff out and pulling it all together. Can’t you just picture how gorgeous it would be?? All the shades of color and texture.

What an amazing eye she has. Layer upon layer. Her rooms have so much depth.

And now I’m done gushing. The end.

To Rod Or Not To Rod

Posted in Uncategorized by Miss Circumstance on September 7, 2011

I’ve been searching for a curtain rod for my bedroom, but I need it be 158″ long, which turns out is a crazy long curtain rod. My first thought was to go to Home Depot and get a really long wood pole, and paint it the same color as the wall to make it disappear a bit. But, turns out such a pole doesn’t exist beyond about 12 1/2 feet. I’ve read about people using conduit pipe- it’s cheap and minimal, but I am not sure if I like that idea. Maybe if I could paint it the wall color. I think I lean towards curtain hardware that disappears more than trys to be an additional decoration or adornment.

I love these curtains on the cover of Elle Decor, and might try to duplicate those in Van’s room. Seems like just a lot of fabric, and maybe mounted good velcro onto a hidden strip of wood right under the ceiling (uh, pretty sure that’s not how they did it, but my I Can Make That disease tells me otherwise).

Though none of these are long enough for my room, here are some options for you should you be roaming in the curtain rod aisle-

West Elm

I gotta tell ya, there is not that much out there. Nothing is really floating my boat. Have you found anything cool? I was also thinking I like the idea of a gold one, but not shiny cheap looking gold. Pretty perhaps vintage looking gold? But not shabby chic or weirdly speckled or something. I don’t know. I guess I’ll know it when I see it. And may it be 158″.
