Christmas Party DIY’s- Bucks, Stripes, and Glitz

Posted in D.I.Y., Decor Files, P&C Portfolio by Miss Circumstance on January 25, 2013

I realized I never posted photos for the Christmas party I did last month-

My favorite is the giant eight foot tall Buck I did. It’s just painted with kids Tempera Paint on the brown paper they sell at home improvement stores. It’s a giant roll for like 12 bucks. It’s intended to use as floor covering when wallpapering or painting, but I cannot tell you how many things I have used it for (including wrapping paper). Some of the best 12 bucks ever spent.

I also loved the DIY striped candles. I’ll do a how-to next week on that.

Christmas Shopping For Yourself

Posted in Fashion Files by Miss Circumstance on November 30, 2012

I headed up to the city on Tuesday, and between returns and gift cards was able to get a few things and barely had to pay for it. Holla.

Those last two items from Zara I bought for my mom to give to me for Christmas. That’s how we roll in our family. Usually my mom and my sis pick a day and spend it together picking out our own Christmas presents. It’s pretty much the best thing ever. We have fun spending time together, my moms happy to get us things we actually want, and Miss Pomp and I have fun helping each other pick things out. There’s nothing like a sister to tell you exactly how ridiculous those drop-crotch silk overalls actually look on you.

Gift Wrap Inspiration

Posted in D.I.Y., Inspiration by Miss Pomp on November 21, 2012

Holla all! I know we’re technically not even to Thanksgiving yet, but with all of the presents arriving on our front doorstep and then subsequently clogging up my closet space, I’ve realized that I have to get on wrapping those suckers stat.

Let’s get something straight here. I LOVE wrapping presents. For me, the presentation of a gift is part of the gift itself. I love having something that is not only pretty for me to look at for the few weeks that it sits under our Christmas tree, but also tells the person that gets the gift that thought and love and care were put into it.

I started with this inspiration from Grey Likes Weddings:

I LOVE this color palette, and for one gift I think it’s great. Since I will however be wrapping closer to 100 gifts (Exaggeration? Probably), I wanted a little more variety and kooky-ness, so I put together this little inspiration board:

Love it? Hate it? Think I’m crazy to already be thinking about gift wrap? Comments, people, comments!

Something To Brighten Your Day (And Mine)

Posted in Inspiration by Miss Pomp on March 9, 2012

You guys.  I totally had the stomach flu this week (YUCK!) and it was so lame. So, between that and working on some really fun, totally great projects we’re excited to share with you in the upcoming week, I AM POOPED!

Sometimes, at times like this, I think we just need a little pick me up. So today I’m going to share with you some images that make me happy, and I hope they make you happy too… Enjoy!

Jimmy and Justin. In a loving and happy embrace. 'Nough said.

No matter what time of year it is, the thought of Christmas makes me happy

This is my new life motto.

Still Catching Up From Christmas

Posted in D.I.Y., Decor Files by Miss Circumstance on January 23, 2012

Remember that Christmas party that I had been working on in December (mentioned here, and here)? Well finally here are some pictures from the main food table

I wanted it to feel sort of monochromatic and organic, so I used lots of different textures but kept them in the same color family(ish)- linens, velvets, slubby cream-on-cream stripes, driftwoods. I kept the hems messy (as you can see in the last picture), and loosely knotted the corners for that easy-breezy look. I used golds, candle light, and mirrors for reflective surfaces, and one of my personal favorites was the bronz-y fake python I used for the bar (not pictured) and in the tray that held the utensils. Every party needs some python right? I think the key to this kind of thing is lots of layers, textures, and little vignettes for points of interest, but they all need to “speak” to each other as they say. I know- I want to punch me too.

I didn’t get pictures of the other areas, but you get the idea from the main food table. So once again I get on my soap-box of using the main food table for a high impact punch of decor goodness.

Under Our Tree

Posted in D.I.Y., Decor Files, Inspiration by Miss Pomp on December 26, 2011

One of my favorite parts of giving Christmas presents is choosing what my wrapping is going to look like. I love making each gift look beautiful and fun, and adding unique touches that are special and thoughtful for each person we are giving a gift to.

This year I wanted everything to be sparkly and bright, light pink and gold, and I was pretty dang happy with the results….

I painted two paper mache reindeer gold to match our christmas presents and give our decorations a whimsical feel

Pouf toppers made with gold tissue paper

A gift is topped with a gold frog brooch that reminds me of a Harry Potter chocolate frog

Merry Christmas!  I hope you and your families and friends had a wonderful time celebrating and being with one another!

Christmas and the Bieb

Posted in Decor Files by Miss Circumstance on December 5, 2011

I usually don’t really decorate much for Christmas beyond the tree, but this year I did the table up a bit with some remnants of a company holiday party I did the decorations for. I always thought those fake birds in the craft aisle were goofy, but apparently I have changed my mind. Now I’m on the fake-bird-in-a-bowl train.

It was at said party where the Bieber fell upon my ears. Guys. I liked it. Like, a lot. I guess the Bieb does a version of Little Drummer Boy with Busta Rhymes. Cause that makes sense. But strangely it works and I love it. And now I think I have caught a bit of the bug….not the full on fever, but a bug. I will officially purchase a Justin Bieber Christmas song on itunes. And jam to it, with only a slight amount of shame.

The Christmas Wish List He Doesn’t Know He Has…

Posted in Fashion Files by Miss Circumstance on November 16, 2011

It’s no secret Miss Pomp and I have a thang’ for Jcrew, and I especially love their kids clothes. These are the clothes I added to Jaden’s (my 8 year olds) Christmas Wish List. He has no idea. I threw in the Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon cause I guess it would be nice to include something he actually wants. He wants all these clothes too…he just doesn’t know it.

A Golden Christmas (With A Smidge Of Pink)

This is what Christmas under our tree will look like this year. Yes, I am inserting my femaleness in this house of boys. Good thing my boys appreciate a good glitter wrap when they see one. All this is from Paper Source, except the Greek Key ribbon.
