Pomp And Circumstance

My Design Crush

Posted in Fashion Files, Inspiration by Miss Circumstance on September 29, 2010

So I have a minor obsession with Nate Berkus. He pretty much hits it out of the park for me every time. You know who he is right? I first saw him on Oprah, and he has been a regular on  her show over the years. He’s her go-to designer. You know how she kind of becomes all about someone…..like Dr. Phil, then Dr. Oz, etc., and they all are on her show all the time, and then eventually get their own show? Well, he was like that. He had a thriving business before he was on there, but I’m sure all that Oprah stuff took him to another level. He’s just really good. Here are some Nate rooms to gush over…

(Sweater – H&M, Jeans – J. Brand, Shoes – Forever 21)

Check out these KILLER leopard wedges I picked up at Forever 21!  $35 of pure awesomeness stacked on top of 5 inches!

This sweater is also a great find I picked up recently at H&M…$15 and cozy as can be!  AND! It comes in many colors – one for every day of the week – wink, wink!

New Online Shelter Magazine……

Posted in Decor Files, Inspiration by Miss Circumstance on September 24, 2010

A new magazine  launched this month called Rue Magazine . What’s so fun about these online magazines is it is so easy to save the pictures. I do still love tearing out pictures from magazines, and tucking them away in a drawer, but online pics are cool cause you can email them to people (so they can see the thing you are trying to describe that sounds so hideous when you put it into words, but really looks so cool if you could just see it…I promise. Wait what? This only happens to me? Oh.)

Here are some highlights from Rue Magazine

Leather & Lace

(Jacket and Tank – Urban Outfitters, Shorts – J. Crew, Boots – Frye)

I’ve been slightly under the weather the last few days…well, that’s an understatement. I’ve felt downright poopy. That being said, these pictures were obviously taken a while ago, when I was feeling over the weather 🙂 (Get it? Nudge, nudge).

Anywho, I’ve been getting a lot of use out of this new jacket from Urban. A little too much use actually…I only had it for about 2 weeks before it was off to the cleaners.

Trying to decide what pieces to supplement my closet with for the upcoming season….

What’s on your must buy list?

Miss Circumstance House Tour: Living Room

Posted in Circumstance's Home, Decor Files, Inspiration by Miss Circumstance on September 20, 2010

Ok, so I was so tempted to style this up a bit before I showed you, cause it looks like I’ve been robbed. But just like Hoda and Kathie Lee hittin’ live tv with no make-up on, I’m showin’ ya the real deal. Complete with uncovered pillows tossed on the chair cause the covers are in the wash. I sold my couch (cause Miss Pomp has an extra that she’s willing to loan me), and my leather club chair (because it took up too much space, and I need two chairs there instead of one to maximize seating space when I have my off the hook Taboo parties on Thursday nights), hence the empty wow-did-you-just-move-in-cause nothings-here room. So here it is, warts and all:

Yup, I totally have a band poster in my living room. That is probably something you are supposed to leave behind along with the teenage acne, but what can I say, I love U2.

I got this settee sofa thing at the Goodwill for $50! Good find, right? When the new/old couch comes the settee will go to the side, cause it looks pretty dinky here, but right now it is serving as our main couch.

This is my first indoor plant in about 4 years! I got this pot at the salvage yard for 2 dollars. Yeah Baby.

And here is a little tip for you – place a little bowl or tray like this on a table or shelf near your door to hold keys, wallets, sunglasses, and all those loose items that you walk in and out with. It keeps them all in one place while still looking stylish. Tru dat.

I Love Me A Good Geometric Print

Posted in Decor Files, Inspiration by Miss Circumstance on September 17, 2010

You guy’s ever heard of Spoonflower? It’s a fabric website that is pretty creative, I think. You can either design your own print, or buy what others have designed, annnnnnnddddd you can choose the weight of the fabric that you want the print to come on. So you can choose cotton, upholstery weight, etc. It’s not the cheapest prices ever, but I think it’s pretty good if you are going to re-upholster something. There are hundreds of fabrics on there, so I didn’t see all of them, but here are some highlights:

Downtown, Things Will Be Great When We’re…DOWNTOWN!

(Shoes – Sam Edelman, Top – Anthropologie, Shorts – F21, Socks – Marc By Marc Jacobs, Monogram Mug – Anthropologie)

Snapped a pic while dropping my (incredibly handsome, intelligent, and funny) husband off at work downtown the other day. Check out these awesome new shorts I bought at Forever 21!  I have been wanting a pair of leather shorts, but was pretty unwilling to spend an arm and a leg on them – which consequently is what leather shorts cost.

Except these – which are fake leather, but feel pretty dang real for the $14 I spent on them.

Holla!

Shopbop’s (& My) Ultimate Closet

Posted in Fashion Files, Inspiration by Miss Pomp on September 15, 2010

(Images via Shopbop)

Each season, Shopbop puts out an “Ultimate Closet” lookbook: 13 pieces (usually 2ish pairs of pants, 2ish dresses, 2ish pairs of shoes, 1 purse, 1 hat, 1 piece of jewelry…you get the picture) styled in multiple (This time 15) different ways.

Can I just say I LOVE THIS!  So often I find myself only using one piece in one way. This is a good reminder that one piece can be styled in a lot of different ways, and you truly could live off of not very many pieces of clothing.

Check out the lookbook here.

Pen In Hand…

Posted in Decor Files, Inspiration by Miss Circumstance on September 14, 2010

I have long been a fan of  color coordinating pens and pencils on a desk. It just looks plain bad when you have a nice space for work, and then a container with a bunch of random, mis-matched Bic pens and chewed up pencils. I have found pencils that come in all one color (See Jane Work is one of my favorite resources), but had yet to find pens.

But check this out….

These are from http://www.iomoi.com (don’t ask me how to pronounce it, I have no idea). They’ve got some other cool stuff too-

I love this kind of stuff. You could spend a small fortune on desk accessories, so it’s not always do-able, but I am totally convinced spending $20 on a group of awesome pens is a worth while purchase.
